What is Cold Processed Soap?

What is cold processed soap and why does it matter? Cold processed soap is created without any additional heating methods outside of the natural chemical process that takes place when the oils, fats, and lye are mixed together. This is called ✨ saponification ✨. Here at Mean but Clean we always cold process our handmade soap. But why? The Mean but Clean Crew care about The Three Big Ps: People, Pets, and the Planet. Cold processed soaps are far more eco-friendly than their hot process and melt & pour sisters, as cold process methods require considerably less energy. Less energy means less wastewater production! In addition, all Mean but Clean ingredients are non-polluting, biodegradable, and most importantly, natural! 

If cold process is so great, why doesn't everyone do it? The answer is simple: patience. While cold process soap heats from the inside out and takes 4-6 weeks to harden and cure, hot process soap heats from the outside-in and with no cure time required, it can be used as soon as it hardens- typically within the next day. Melt & Pour soap cuts further corners; by melting previously made soap and cooling them into bars. With the melt & pour process one has no control over the type, quality, process, or origin of the individual ingredients. We may be control freaks, but the time, effort, and care is worth it! Sure, the Mean but Clean experience starts out as a prank gift with rude words, but as responsible assholes, we believe in the power of aftercare! Our words may be harsh, but our soap is not!
