Mean But Clean's Soap Ingredients

Lye

No longer exclusively for dissolving your enemies in a bathtub, lye is a safe and integral component of the entire saponification process! The chemical reaction between the oils and lye create a rock hard bar soap. To ensure that no lye remains after the cold processed soap is completed, we oversaturate our soap with more fat and oil than necessary. Some refer to this process as "superfatting," but we lovingly refer to it as making thicc ass bars. Place that hyphen wherever you want 😉
Coconut Oil

Not only is coconut oil great for hydration, but it is full of lauric acid which has antimicrobial and antifungal properties. The world may be gross, but your skin doesn't have to be!
Olive Oil

Loaded with vitamins E and K, olive oil is an excellent antioxidant ally when it comes to fighting the ravages of time! You may feel old as dirt, but we'll help you keep your dirty little secret.
Castor Oil

Rich in ricinoleic acid, castor oil acts as a humectant which helps retain moisture by preventing water loss from the outer layer of skin. Think of it as our big, mean, somehow obnoxiously outspoken vegan soap bar's bouncer, protecting all that sexy hydration we're adding to your skin!

Distilled Water

Distilled water is created by evaporating water into vapor and then collecting the new liquid in another container. This ensures that there are no impurities in our water or soap! Jesus Christ, did I really have to explain that one?!
Coconut Milk

This thick, milky white, opaque liquid is suitable for all skin types and excellent for reducing fine lines and wrinkles, so don't worry about getting our "man soap" all over your face. 💦
Cocoa Butter

A great source of vitamin E and fatty acids, cocoa butter helps pack our natural soap bars with the elements necessary to support smooth and supple skin, as well as repair damage from sun exposure and late night benders.
Shea Butter

Full of fatty acids such as oleic, stearic, palmitic, and linoleic acids, shea butter is highly moisturizing as well as having anti-inflammatory properties. Applied to the skin, shea causes cytokines and other inflammatory cells to slow their growth and production. Which may help minimize irritation caused by dry weather and eczema.

Kaolin Clay

A natural, soft white, clay that has been used for centuries, we use kaolin clay to ensure that the fragrance in our handcrafted soaps stays potent and strong for your use. Kaolin clay has also been linked to preventing acne by absorbing excess sebum.My high school years would've been much improved by a lack of acne and body odor, that's for sure.
Natural & Man-Made Fragrances

Gag gifts don't have to make you gag, which is why our handcrafted soaps pack a fragrant punch and leave you smelling amazing. We utilize pure essential oils in the majority of our soaps, and man-made fragrances in a couple of our soaps to ensure that you're smelling your best in and out of the shower.
Mica

Our colorants are 100% natural mica. No synthetic or chemical colors are used in Mean but Clean bar soap!
Sodium Lactate

The sodium salt of lactic acid, sodium lactate is produced by fermenting a sugar source such as corn or beets and after neutralizing the lactic acid we're left with compound NaC₃H₅O₃.Holy shit that's science-y, but what does it mean? Sodium lactate is a safe and effective humectant and moisturizer for the skin and this salt also helps preserve the soaps, naturally.
